Monday 12
COLECTIVO ABOLIPOP
Lumenlab, Nebula 3, Jack’s son (feat. VJ Sal), Cubenx, Uvi.lov,
Bandido e Israel M

Visuals: Sal, adcdac, Píldora y Noba

Guadalajara- Plaza de la Liberación
21:00 Hrs

Intelligent Dance Music was the first musical label under which the collective’s proposal and independent Abolipop Records was recognized at its very beginnings in 2003 but, nevertheless, this alias would not be crystal clear to define the work proposed by the different artists who have been part of the collective´s lines, since they became ingrained in the new generations of electronic and indies musicians now populating the Western Pearl, Guadalajara. From the broken and dirty pop, going through micro and minimal techno, advance hip-hop, deconstructed ambient and more explorative pop variations, they have been part of the 10 physically printed CD productions and the 3 digitalized launchings representing Abolipop’s record production.

Abolipop is now celebrating its 5th anniversary producing alternative electronic music in a context where the most redundantly commercial synthetic music is in command. More than once during this quinquennium, foreign newspapers have given space to Abolipop’s work anticipating the national press, for instance: Intro and De.bug (Germany), The Milk Factory (England), Cyclic Defrost (Australia), Texture (Canada), among other media. When acting live, projects like Lumenlab, Nebula 3, Transistor or Israel M have made performances in cities all over the United States, France, Austria, Spain, England and Colombia, besides dozens of showcases, concerts or sessions in Mexico.

With new artists and collaborations, as well as new recordings, Abolipop is now celebrating 5 years of being alive with this concert, within the framework of the Festival Cultural de Mayo 2008.

Lumenlab
Deformed synthetic melodies, accelerated broken rhythms, metamorphose of a post-adolescent sound that doesn’t want to cease being twisted and strong at the same time. Analogical rhythm boxes, under 100-peso keyboards and amorphous voices have combined with digital tools for the last 8 years in Lumenlab´s path, during which it has printed an album entitled ‘Eating Cotton on the Dance Floor’ (Comiendo algodón en la pista de baile, one of the most risky records in the Mexican electronic panorama) and have collaborated for various seals in Mexico, England and Germany. Its second album, just published under the title ‘Shhh!!’ different from the previous one, is much more energetic and dysfunctional.

Nebula 3
For Israel Martínez, its mentor, Nebula 3 has been an expression vehicle in the remote corners of alternative pop music during the last 6 years. Starting with a sound that the Spanish independent press christened as indietronic, and always keeping in mind the atmospheric aspect in its compositions, Nebula 3 has walked continuously, both studio and live, let a sample suffice: ‘Another way’ was its first LP, is a recording that makes you think of synth pop and new wave, without getting to retro, better reinventing and personalizing the aesthetics that have influenced Israel since his teens. Nowadays, Nebula 3 is creating its next album where the environmental level is once more central, accompanied by guitars and other sounds that send you to the “ethereal”.

Jack’s son & VJ Sal
Deep respect for black culture: that’s what has influenced Jack’s son to inspire himself in trends such as hip-hop, dub, funk, soul, to deconstruct them by means of digital tools resulting in a compact called ‘Everyone has a Kid Inside’, released at the end of 2006. Live, intensity increases and, for this session, Jack’s son will be accompanied by VJ Sal, mandatory reference in visual arts that, in recent years, has accompanied electronic music in Mexico. Recognized for its work at the beginning of Colectivo Nortec, Sal has gained fame working with urban situations that can only happen in places like Tijuana. Its work has been appreciated in different parts of the world and with Jack’s son he has worked for two years expressly making visual exercises for his live performances.

Cubenx
With only two years under aka Cubenx, César Urbina has achieved important goals, as having published tracks under the seals In Finé, Static Discos, Synergy Networks and, of course, Abolipop, besides live presentations in several French and German cities in 2007. Cubenx is one of the young artists in the world that show techno’s infinite possibilities by conjugating it with beauty, feeling and power. Live presentations are his realm, on one hand exploring sounds, textures and rhythms and on the other, supporting the beat and bass definitiveness that raise the dance hall to a sky-high level. In Mexico it is doubtless that no one compares to him.

Uvi.lov
These youngsters are from Monterrey and they underline pop beauty through their nostalgic chords and dreamy atmospheres. Using guitars, pianica, keyboards, a sound saw and laptops, their melancholy melodies and animic explosions captivate and remind us of post-rock groups. Nowadays they are cutting what will become their first LP album, and play live continuously in the northern part of the country. This is their first visit to Guadalajara.

Bandido
Abstract and hooky at its top is what this Bandido samplers propose, combining this sound Project with its activism within street art, stencil art in particular. Its music is a trigger to fill streets with these manifestations, combining this raw and spontaneous energy with a subtlety achieved by laptop productions. For body-shaking or simply head-nodding, Bandido is a great proposal within digital hip-hop.

Israel M
Israel Martínez work is a sound artist related to different formats that transcend concert classics. He has made in-situ projects, actions, space interventions and installations, always interested in the roles sound plays in diverse societal aspects. For this presentation, he will perform a special work with sounds recorded in the center of Guadalajara, a short piece that will start Abolipop’s showcase. Israel has published compositions and made live presentations in different parts of the world. In 2007 he was awarded the Distinction Prize in the Musical Digitals Category, granted by the Austrian Ars Electronica Institution and Festival.
