EL HALLAZGO "THE FINDING"
Butoh-Montage on the most ancient artificial mummies in the world.
P R E S E N T A T I O N
This show is based in an original idea of Juan José Olavarrieta, our director.
The Gajuca Company is outstanding for its experimental character because while emphasizing theatrical structure, it also narrates a story created by the author without abandoning the dancistic aspects pertaining to the Butoh technique.

Actors take our audiences back more than 9,000 years through all the personal experience and sensations of our most primary motions.
By taking their bodies to the uttermost extreme of their possibilities, both in emotions and corporal abilities, the staging breaks up with the traditional white Butoh target, immersing us into the distinctive black (grey), red and whitish colors which define the mummification period of their representation.
Because of the power and avant-gardism that its scenic language manifest, this play is mainly addressed to young audiences (over 16 years) given that the spectators will be living a rite on stage and become a part of this last day of the Chinchorro people.
ITS HISTORY
Juan José Olavarrieta, playwright and director, immerses us in the pre-ceramic Chinchorro culture, people located in Africa (first Chilean region). As civilization, the Chinchorros have a more than 9,000 year-old history, which leads us to “these mummies being the oldest artificial mummies in the world.”

The plot tells us about the last long day in the life of Solaria, Erina and Dorán, three inhabitants of this ancient civilization, who narrate how, on dying, they slowly transform into the different types of mummies that existed in that culture: black, red, and whitish.
This staging not only takes us to the mortuary rites of this people; it is a return to the days when death was seen as a sharing between the dead and the living, and not like our civilization’s present idea on that ineluctable moment through which all of us shall leave this world, death.
The story shows and recounts the intimate dependency relation existing among them, where every inhabitant was essential for the survival of the group, immersing us in a world of sensations and images which are a trip to our own elementary emotions, such as pain, happiness, childbirth and death.
